Half Done Job?

My Father hated half done jobs. If anyone in our family did not do their work properly, we would be gently instructed to do it again and do it right.

Most Christians believe that Jesus did a half done job. They believe that he died on the cross for our sins, but he did not do enough to get rid of sin and totally destroy the power of the devil. He did not do enough for the Kingdom of God to be established. Most Christians believe that Jesus will return at the end of the age to complete his half done job. His first effort did not the job, so he will have to come back and finish it properly.

The New Testament teaches something different. Just before he breathed his last, Jesus said, “It is finished”. He was not just referring to his life. He was declaring that he had completed the task assigned to him and that he had done it properly.

The New Testament declares that Jesus totally dealt with sin. He destroyed the power of the devil. He ascended into heaven and sent the Holy Spirit to live in every believer. He had done everything necessary to roll back the damage that had been done by the fall and bring in the Kingdom of God. Jesus sat down at the right hand of God, who seemed to be pleased with what he had done. It is hard to see what more he could do.
